Vivek Ramaswamy Says GOP has Become “a Party of Losers,” Blames Ronna McDaniel, Calls for Her Resignation

Maine’s Republican National Committee members are keeping quiet about RNC Chairwomen Ronna McDaniel’s future as the leader of the top GOP fundraising committee as calls mount for her to resign her post following the Nov. 7 elections.

Calls for McDaniel to step began almost immediately after the election results came in, but they reached a fever pitch when Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy blamed McDaniel for Republican’s disappointing losses in recent elections during an RNC-sponsored presidential debate the following day.

“We’ve become a party of losers at the end of the day. There’s a cancer in the republican establishment,” said Ramaswamy, speaking at the RNC Debate the day after the election.

Ramaswamy pointed out the series of Republican losses which have taken place since McDaniel took over as Chair of the RNC in 2017.

The Maine Wire reached out to Maine’s RNC Committeeman Hon. Josh Tardy, and Committeewoman Hon. Ellie Espling, asking whether they agreed with Ramaswamy’s criticism, or if they continued to trust McDanile’s leadership.

Neither committee member immediately responded for comment.

Maine’s GOP Chair Joel Stetkis declined to comment when asked the same questions.

McDaniel responded to the calls for her resignation in an interview on NBC’s meet the press, downplaying Republican failures and citing Republican voter turnout as a success.

She suggested that abortion could be a winning issue for Republicans, but only if the party embraced a more nuanced position that total prohibition.

McDaniel suggested Republicans ought to advocate for setting up some “common-sense limitations” without banning the practice outright.

“We can win on this message, the American people are where we are, and they want common-sense limitations,” said McDaniel.

In an interview with FOX News, McDaniel criticized Ramaswamy’s attack on her, saying that he missed an opportunity to speak on other issues, such as Israel, or Biden, by focusing on criticism of her leadership.

She also defended her record, citing some of her past successes, while hitting back at Ramaswamy.

“When Vivek didn’t vote in 2016, I was leading Michigan to the first victory in history, in 30 years,” said McDaniel.

McDaniel was re-elected to her position in January of this year, and will serve as RNC chair through the 2024 election, if she does not choose to take Ramaswamy’s advice and resign.
