Residents in the Oxford County town of Byron will get the chance to approve a measure that would make the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution mandatory for all households.

Byron Head Selectman Anne Simmons-Edmunds told FOX News Thursday she expects that all three members of the board favor the measure and that she expects the town’s estimated 140 residents to approve it at next week’s town meeting.

This might be setting a dangerous precedent – forcing gun ownership on those who might not wish to do so seems more than a little autocratic. Even though I recommend self defense, gun ownership, and no restrictions on doing so, I do not like the mandatory requirement being FORCED on anybody in a supposedly free society. I know, if people don’t like the municipal regulation in Byron, they can move to another location – if they can afford, and want, to do so.
A side note: I believe Switzerland has such a requirement, also, but am not sure.
