RGA ad slams Michaud on welfare for illegals

The Republican Governors Association has released a new ad criticizing Democratic candidate for governor U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud for his position on allowing illegal immigrants to collect welfare benefits.

“Michaud would put Maine taxpayers on the hook for over $1 million in payments to illegal immigrants, and make Maine more attractive to illegal immigrants who can’t get benefits in other states,” the narrator says.

The ad attacks Michaud for statements he has made to Maine media about providing welfare benefits to illegal immigrants, a practice that Gov. Paul R. LePage has stopped in order to comply with federal law.

“Don’t be fooled when liberal Mike Michaud says he’d look out for Maine,” RGA Communications Director Gail Gitcho said in a press release. “He supports siphoning taxpayer dollars from hard working Mainers and using the money to pay welfare benefits to illegal immigrants.”

In July, LePage announced that 8 unaccompanied alien children had been placed in the state without consulting him.  “If we have eight kids in the state right now and if there are any state dollars going there, there are eight Mainers not getting services,” he said.

Michaud has yet to clearly state his position on the subject, but he appears to support Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick’s decision to house unaccompanied children who are in the country illegally in his state as they await an immigration hearing.

Where are the RGA ads slamming the DC aristocracy and calling for a Convention of States to rein in the DC thugs ?

It’s amazing! The timeline was: Wall St collapse in Mid Sep 08; bailout in Oct 08; presidential election in nov 08; unemployment increased from 5.6% to 7.8% in just 2.5 months leading up to the utter disaster Bush handed off to Obama on 1/20/09

Yes, the RGA basically lies about and distorts Michaud’s position. More out-of-state money trying to buy the election for our failed Guvnah. Since they can’t talk up LePage (most people wouldn’t believe it or want to hear it), they just tear down the other guy. Good luck! LePage seems to be gaining 0 traction.

Gee, why doesn’t Maine Wire (MHPC) ever run articles critical of LePage or other Republicans? I thought you were supposed to be non-partisan. Oh, sorry, I understand. It’s just a cover to preserve your non-profit status. Silly me!
