Robert R. Card II, 40, of Bowdoin, is the primary person of interest in the largest mass shooting in Maine’s history, according to the Maine Information and Analysis Center, the intel unit of the Maine State Police.

Police began receiving calls about an active shooter incident in Lewiston at 6:56 pm Wednesday.

Media reports indicate there are 22 people dead and several dozen more injured, though police officials were reluctant Wednesday evening to confirm those numbers.

The shootings occurred first at Sparetime Recreation and minutes later at Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant.

At 2:52 am Thursday morning, the Maine State Police issued the following statement: “No updates to report at this time other than a news conference is scheduled for 10:30 am Thursday at Lewiston City Hall.”

As of Thursday morning, Card remained at large and police were advising those in the surrounding communities to secure their homes.

He very recently has been prescribed psyche drugs. And if he is the one who had the thoughts to homocide and committed the resulted action then he is taking those drugs.

Seriously…. people think OOGA BOOGA guns are the problem…..!!!! Wake. The. Bleep. Up…..
Make Asylums Great Again! A BAD GUY with bad intentions will find a way to get a gun, no matter how many laws are thrown down.

This guy’s violent mental issues were known — and yet, ignored.

Makes you wonder if that was deliberate?

I resist conspiracy theories, but this is not the first time a clearly mentally ill person was not acted upon. Makes me wonder if someone wants these things to happen?

I agree with Salvatore, posted on here.

It’s not a gun issue: it’s a mental health issue. Since the 70’s the mental health system in America has been decimated. Clients are on our streets when they should be in a clinic receiving care.

Maine has one of the highest per capita firearm ownership rates in the Union, and up to the individual actions of this one man, has had one of the lowest firearm violent crime rates in the Union as well. Many in this state carry weapons, however sadly no good guys with guns were present in the locations that this man committed his crimes at.

There will be of course a chorus of political pundits, and gun control advocates that will seize upon this tragedy to promote the knee jerk reaction of the anti gun agenda to ban certain types of weapons, or to reduce magazine capacity…..none of which would have, or could have prevented this tragedy as these messures are akin to punishing McDonald’s for hot coffee being spilled on the driver of a vehicle when the driver of the vehicle should have not opened a hot liquid container in a moving vehicle.

When I heard this news my first thoughts were that the ugliness of the morally declined US Union has finally come home to roost in my home state, how sad for the victims of this crime, and their families. But I also wondered what happen to this man, the shooter, to make him snap and do something like this. This last question should be the one of most importance as banning any weapon, or accessories to a weapon will never stop a person who has reached a point in their thought process where taking the lives of others in a response to a mental break down of sorts seems to be the only action left to them.

If this man is captured alive, and I unfortunately believe that this will not be the case, then like other serial killers this man should be studied to find out the mechanisms that got them to this place in their life. Again, and unfortunately I doubt that there will be the opportunity to do this, and if by a slim chance that this reality does manifest; will those who were charged with the care of this man in his incarceration for the mental health issues that he was clearly suffing from be able to admit their treatment errors, and instead of punishing all of the non violent, safety adhered to firearm owners with spilled hot coffee measures actually take a hard look at how and why this took place, and start addressing the real causes of these shootings.

We have seveer mental health issues that are plaguing our country, and there are many thoughts as to why. Could it be the highly processed foods that we consume with all the added chemicals that are part of these taking their toll on our biological brain computer?

Could it be the fallout from the technology that has a place in nearly every aspect of our lives emitting harmful electronic field that affect our biological (brain/body) system?

Could it be the extremely high rate of prescribed medications that have side effects that include violent, and suicidal thoughts along with depression?

In communities such as the Amish there are very few of the chronic health issues that US society as a whole have as part of every day life. There are no examples to my knowledge of mass shootings in the Amish communities, or mass killings of any type. The Amish eat foods that are pure using only natural fertilizer such as animal manuers, they use no pesticides such as Round Up, they use no electronic devices. Maybe it is time to look beyond the symptoms of these mass shootings, and start taking a hard look into why there are mass shootings.
