Rep. Austin Theriault (R-Fort Kent) has challenged Rep. Mike Soboleski (R-Phillips) to participate in three debates in the GOP primary race that will determine who challenges incumbent Democratic Rep. Jared Golden in the Second Congressional District.

According to an official statement from Rep. Theriault, his proposal “includes 3 debates to be organized by the Maine Republican Party over the coming months, with specific locations to be determined by the Maine GOP.”

“I’m running to be an effective fighter for rural Maine, because it’s been forgotten too many times by too many elites in Washington DC,” said Theriault.

Theriault is a former NASCAR driver, and is currently serving in the Maine House of Representatives, representing the District 1.

“I look forward to multiple debates and sharing my conservative vision for the future with the voters of Maine,” Rep. Soboleski said in a statement to the Maine Wire.

Soboleski served in the Marine Corps and is currently representing District 73 in the Maine House of Representatives.
