A group of 47 Maine House Democrats penned an emotional letter in an attempt to leverage the tragic Oct. 25 mass shooting in Lewiston to reduce the sale of “assault weapons” in Maine.
The Democratic officials demanded that Cabela’s, and its parent company Bass Pro Shops, stop the sale of “assault weapons,” despite being large suppliers of hunting and outdoors supplies.

“When entering your Scarborough, Maine store, one only needs to enter the Hunting Department to see rows of military-style weapons– a painful reminder that a man used one of these weapons to kill 18 citizens of our state,” said the Democrats in their petition.
In October, Robert R. Card, Jr., murdered 18 people and wounded several more in the state’s worst ever mass shooting.
Democrats argued that if Maine’s only Cabela’s location was to stop selling “military-style semi-automatic weapons” they would be showing “leadership” and would be doing their part to prevent another shooting in Maine.
“We all need to do our part to make sure it does not happen again. Doing nothing is simply not acceptable,” said the letter.
This latest attempt to emotionally manipulate Cabela’s into ceasing the legal sale of firearms follows Democratic lawmakers’ push for legislative gun-control in the aftermath of the shooting.
Multiple Maine politicians have recently taken a 180-degree turn on their positions on gun control, going from “moderate” pro-Second Amendment Democrats to the radically anti-gun position of the majority of their party.
U.S. Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) used the shooting to reverse his position on assault rifle bans, while U.S. Sen. Angus King’s (I-Maine) has voiced support for sweeping gun control measures.

Maine Senate President Troy Jackson (D-Aroostook), also switched his position after the shooting.
Throughout his 20 year career in state politics, Sen. Jackson had opposed gun control legislation.
However, Jackson’s position changed after the Maine Gun Safety Coalition hired The Resurgam Group to lobby in favor of gun control legislation.
The Resurgam group was founded by Jackson’s former Chief of Staff B.J. McCollister, and employs Jackson’s son, Chace, as a partner in the firm.
Now that the democrats control all three levers of Maine State government, they wish to flood the state with illegal aliens and take away our 2cd ammendment rights to have an effective means to protect our families.
Another ridiculous and Unconstitutional request by Democrats. Cabela’s does and should have the right to sell the guns and the public does and should have the right to buy them. The blame for gun violence lies 100% with the shooter, honest people know this.
If he used a car to mow down a dozen people walking down the street or used a knife in a crowd to stab several people, should we keep them from being displayed as well. This tragedy could have been avoided if people did their jobs. People who plan on killing people will use that car or that knife if they cannot get a gun.
Don’t ban guns,….. Ban Democrats,…………
The State has not cough the 3 gun toting illegals who shoot up Saco yet! Who is protecting my Family! Not the governor or our folks in DC.
Democrats hate america. Migrants are their new voter base.
The Dems need to stop blaming the weapons and ask the tougher question; why are people committing these things? They have done nothing to address the declining culture here and all of America.
Card was identified as a threat prior to the event. Inaction by those involved. Questions abound. Find answers. Cabela’s or Kittery Trading Post are not the cause. Support Maine business. Politicians hate to see a tragedy go by without seizing opportunity to advance an agenda.
Boy I sure do wish democrats would educate themselves about firearms. This letter sounds like a threat, do what we want or else. You could almost say tyrannical.
