Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) once again broke with the establishment Democratic Party and spoke out against squatters rights and soft-on-crime policies during an interview with the New York Post.
Despite breaking with the hard left of his party, the Pennsylvania senator says he still plans to support President Joe Biden in the November presidential election.
“Squatters have no rights,” said Sen. Fetterman.
“How can you even pretend that this is anything other than you’re just breaking the law,” said Fetterman.
During the interview, Fetterman took aim at the idea of squatters rights, which have been used extensively across the country by criminals to takeover people’s homes without paying rent.
As squatting has become increasingly prevalent amid the ongoing border crisis, social media videos featuring U.S. citizens and illegal aliens touting the benefits of squatting have gone viral on TikTok.
In some blue states, such as New York and Oregon, property owners have found that law enforcement officers often side with the squatters, leaving them little recourse to evict the unwanted trespassers.

While many blue states continue soft-on-crime policies which fail to protect homeowners from squatting, Fetterman’s comments appear more in line with the policies pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida), meant to protect against squatters and secure private property rights.

While Florida cracks down on squatters, New York grants legal rights to any squatter who illegally occupies a property for just 30 days.
“It’s wild, that if you go away on a long trip, for 30 days, and someone breaks into your home and suddenly they have rights,” said Fetterman. “This is crazy. Like if somebody stole your car, and then they held it for 30 days, then somehow you now have some rights?”
Fetterman also took aim at the policies which allowed Guy Rivera, a criminal with 21 prior arrests, to be outside of police custody when he murdered N.Y. Police Department Detective Jonathan Diller during a traffic stop.
“If this individual is convicted, then he should spend the rest of his life and in prison, and never have an opportunity to get out,” said Fetterman.
This marks a significant departure from many Democrats, who push “compassionate” policies, sometimes referred to as “restorative justice,” which discourage incarceration or significant penalties for lawbreakers.

“I am not woke,” said Fetterman, who has recently developed a pattern of going against his party on key issues.
He has been willing to acknowledge the severity of the border crisis, and, as Democrats have grown far less favorable towards Israel, he has maintained his unequivocal support for the nation’s war against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.

Despite Fetterman’s statements, he nevertheless remains a staunch supporter of President Biden, saying that he hopes to serve as a “surrogate” for president Biden in Pennsylvania.
He believes that, despite former President Donald Trump’s strong poll numbers in Pennsylvania, a key swing state, Biden will ultimately be victorious.
