A Maine man pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to the armed robbery of an Augusta bank.
In court documents, federal prosecutors accused 38-year-old Joshua Brougham of Manchester, Maine of robbing an Augusta bank at gunpoint in October 2022.
Brougham allegedly entered the bank wearing a brimmed hat and a standard hospital face mask, and proceeded to the counter where after a brief conversation with the bank teller he pulled out a silver handgun, placing it on the counter in the direction of the teller.
Brougham then told the bank teller to give him “all the money in the drawer,” and then folded the money inside a newspaper and fled to a nearby parking lot before driving away in a gold-colored GMC Yukon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine.
A vehicle matching the description of the one from surveillance footage of the robbery was located four days after the robbery by Augusta Police Department investigators at a convenience store, where Brougham was arrested.
A search of Brougham’s vehicle by law enforcement resulted in the seizure of a handgun magazine loaded with seven .380 caliber bullets, and an unloaded Walther PPK/S .380 caliber pistol that matched the description of the firearm used during the robbery.
Also seized during the investigation was a brimmed hat that matched the hat worn during the robbery.
Brougham faces a maximum of 25 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine followed by up to five years of supervised release
The Augusta Police Department and the FBI investigated the case.
