Maine’s Schools Plummet from 19th to 43rd Under Janet Mills: U.S. News

Maine has gotten worse in pretty much every area since 2018, per U.S. News

Maine is the 28th best state to live in according to a new report from U.S. News. But the state’s ranking has dropped slightly since 2018, when it was rated the 22nd best overall by the same outlet.

Maine’s lowest score came in the “education” category, where it ranked 43rd among the states, a significant drop from its 2018 score, where it was deemed the 19th best state for education.

Although Maine’s overall education is not dead last, U.S. News did rate the state’s public schools as the worst in the nation, following an overview of all public schools in the country.

Maine also saw a drop in ranking with regard to its fiscal stability, moving from 29th in 2018 to 24th now.

That metric measures the state’s ability to maintain a balanced budget, and the liquidity of its economy.

In both cases, Maine scored below the national average.

The state’s infrastructure was far below average, ranking 40th overall.

Maine’s infrastructure has come under increased scrutiny recently, after winter storms left the majority of the state without power for multiple days, and damaged or destroyed many of the state’s roads and bridges.

Maine ranked best in crime and opportunity, scoring second place in both metrics.

The crime score is, however, down from 2018, where Maine was considered best in the nation.

In ranking the states on crime, U.S. News measured things such as overall public safety, and the violent crime rate, but also gave points in Maine’s favor for maintaining a low incarceration rate, and for having “equality in jailing.”

Maine’s high ranking on opportunity did not come from its cost of living, which is higher than the national average, or its median income, which is significantly lower than the national.

Maine’s overall opportunity score was inflated by its extremely high “equality” score.

The equality score evaluates any gaps between the opportunities of white and minority residents, and considers the number of women in the workforce, and the difference in earnings among men and women.

While the state had a very high rating in general for its lack of pollution, it received a poor score on the quality of its air and water, with nearly a rate of drinking water violations nearly 10 times higher than the national average.

War crime tribunals are in order. Bibi needs to be tried, convicted and hung publicly before healing can begin.

Marxist Mills and her commie democrats destroyed Maine. Maine schools are filled with low IQ special education students who can barely read, write or do math. Add the mentally ill and behavioral students to the mix along with passing failing students from grade to grade year after year until they finally are released uneducated and onto welfare or drugs because they can’t take care of themselves. Maine schools stopped teaching cursive twenty years ago. Signature? Maine students print. Math facts? Maine students can’t remember them. Penis tuckers and breast binders? Free for the sexually indoctrinated. Genital mutilation without parental permission? No problem. Marxist Mills has already legally protected the evil surgeons mutilating children. Until I taught in Maine Public Schools, I never knew students could be so stupid and still walk and talk. Homeschool. You may just be saving your child from genital mutilation by the democrats without your approval or knowledge!

Even our drinking water has gone down!
Why are we still building new schools?
Do our leaders in DC see this?
Vote them all out, from DC to the town level.

Democrats destroy everything that they touch and the school system is now nothing but a Marxist training ground for young minds. It is everything that the Democrats have wanted to insure that they always remain in power. The current school system has parents running from it to home school or enroll their kids in a private institution where the educational system can be monitored. Until we the people take back the school boards and effect the changes necessary to the DEI curriculum, this system will only continue to rot.

Pender Makin…I’ll leave this right here. Our entire government is run by unqualified and entitled people who have over the top salaries and no ability to understand the big picture. I kept my mouth shut on this appointment but it basically the entire, “Let’s Work(?) from home idiots. Been waiting for these results and feel a sense of loss from wasting 40 years in a profession working so hard to see it all torn down and kids left with no hope of learning anything in dysfunctional Maine.

Wow….such vitriol. As for “printing”, get off your soap box. Teaching kids cursive has been gone a long time everywhere. That was the least ridiculous in some of these comments. Some schools may still teach it but not often. Seems like everyone here hates everyone else. Yes, I live in Maine.

Low in incarceration rate = they let all the criminals off the hook and they are roaming the streets.

  16. SteveL on May 13, 2024 6:55 AM

Maybe this should be put in perspective, instead of the 28th best state, that also figures to the 23rd worst state! That is more accurate look at the state’s failings!

  17. Doug Thomas on May 15, 2024 9:05 AM

Until there’s competition (School Choice) our kids will continue to suffer from the lack of an adequate education.

  18. Mike on June 25, 2024 10:59 AM

This is what happens when you focus on equality of opportunity rather than best solutions for all. And the equality has nothing to do with minorities. It’s got to do with white men being systematically removed from all levels of positions and replaced by woman. Woman are not minorities. They should be considered equals. This state is so poorly run its going to be fun watching the glow in the sky as Maine burns under the enormous pressure of the Mills Administrations socialist policies. Look at the hundreds of millions of dollars being funneled into Childcare subsity… it’s depressing to know we are working ourselves into early graves so the government can take more money from us and give it to people they believe will vote for them…

  20. Mike (the other one) on June 27, 2024 5:25 PM

Almost there Janet. We all know your goal is to be 50th. History will judge you not only as the most incompetent governor to ever exist but the most evil. The democrats look at stupid kids as future voters to keep them in power. If we can’t kill them a day before due date keep them ignorant. Just think you’ve done it in 5 1/2 years. I hope you like it really hot. You’ve cemented your place in hell doing this and all your other policies to kids.
