Climate activists continued their spree of vandalism, adding Stonehenge to the list of numerous cultural icons, including famous paintings, vandalized for the sake of the environment.

“Stonehenge is protected by the ancient monuments act and it is a criminal offence to damage the Stones. There are also multiple rare lichen species growing on the stones that are also protected. Expect a prison sentence,” said the official X account representing the monument.

On Wednesday, two activists with the Just Stop Oil environmental group rushed at Stonehenge and sprayed orange paint over the prehistoric structure, demanding that the U.K. government sign a legally binding pledge to stop the use and extraction of oil by 2030.

Video shows the two protesters, later identified as the 73-year-old Rajan Naidu and the 21-year-old Niamh Lynch, using what appear to be fire extinguishers filled with paint to spray the stones as bystandards attempt to stop them from committing the crime.

The Just Stop Oil official X account praised the vandals, and defended their use of paint allegedly made from orange cornflour, which it claims will wash off.

“2 people took action the day before Summer Solstice, demanding the incoming government sign up to a legally binding treaty to phase out fossil fuels by 2030,” said the group, which publicly endorsed the criminal activity.

Following Just Stop Oil’s defense of the vandalism, X’s community notes denied claims that the paint would wash off without damaging the stones, claiming that it would harm the rare lichen covering the stones which protects them from erosion.

Climate groups have an extensive history of vandalism, with activists defacing, or attempting to destroy numerous priceless pieces of art including the Mona Lisa, and multiple Van Gough Paintings.

Just Stop Oil has been directly involved in defacing multiple Van Gough paintings, along with the famous Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer.

It continues to remain unclear how vandalizing priceless art and monuments in any way furthers the “renewable energy” agenda.
