“F*** you. No”: Janet Mills’ Team Flagged Maine Wire Video, Firearms Policy Coalition Tweet to State Police as Potential Threat

Documents obtained by the Maine Wire via a Freedom of Access Act show that Gov. Janet Mills’ personnel referred social media posts from the Firearms Policy Coalition and the Maine Wire to the State Police, flagging them for the governor’s Executive Protection Unit.

The tweet in question contained a video from an interview in which Gov. Mills told a liberal reporter that she was considering a ban on a popular form of semi-automatic rifle in the wake of the Oct. 25 mass shooting in Lewiston.

The Firearms Policy Coalition, a 501(c)4 nonprofit that litigates in defense of American’s civil right to bear arms under the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights, re-posted the video with a simple if profane message:

“Hey @GovJanetMills, Three words: F*ck you. No.”

That was enough to send Mills’ press staffers into a tizzy, according to emails reviewed by the Maine Wire.

In a Dec. 20 email — subject line “Gun tweet” — Mills’ press secretary forwards a link to the offending X post, noting that the post was “making the rounds,” and another staffer immediately forwarded the post to the Maine State Police employee responsible for protecting the governor.

It’s unclear from the emails why exactly Mills’ staffers would construe a stalwart defense of American civil liberties by a nationally renowned civil rights organization as a matter worthy of elevating to her security detail.

However, this isn’t the first time public records obtained by the Maine Wire have revealed that Democratic bureaucrats have endeavored — with no legitimate rationale — to get the Maine Wire investigated for social media posts.

Emails obtained in the course of an investigation into the conduct of Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows revealed that her Deputy Secretary of State, Emily Cook, sought to have the Maine Wire investigated over a cartoon graphic of an election ballot posted to social media.
