Portland Police issued a traffic alert on X at 9:20 p.m. closing traffic from Bell Street to Morrill’s Corner, and urging the public to avoid the area “for a major incident.”

Nearby business Samuel’s Bar and Grill posted to Facebook Tuesday night that “There was a shooting at Morrill’s Corner tonight.”

“It was not at Samuel’s. Our employees and customers are all safe thanks to the quick reaction of our employees and the Portland Police Department,” the business stated in a post.

According to News Center Maine, Portland Police Maj. Robert Martin said the department is “working to identify witnesses and possibly video from businesses or homes that are in the area,” but that no arrest had been made, as of 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

In their Wednesday press release, Portland Police stated that the temporary shelter in place recommendation for those near the area has been lifted as they “don’t believe there is any threat to the public at this time.”

“This is an active and ongoing investigation, and as such, we will not be releasing any further details at this time,” Portland Police stated. “Police will provide updates to the public as the case allows.”
