A Portland man is facing a charge of attempted murder after allegedly shooting a woman in the arm early Monday morning, according to the Portland Police Department.

Shortly after 2:40 a.m. on Monday, police responded to a report of a shooting at 5 Portland St.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 42-year-old female who had an apparent gunshot wound to her arm.

Police said the woman was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspected shooter, 47-year-old Randy Aron of Portland, was located by police less than an hour later at his residence on 243 High St.

The Portland Police Department’s Special Reaction Team (SRT) and Crisis Negotiators Team (CNT) were dispatched to the residence to assist with setting up a secure perimeter around the property and executing a search warrant.

According to police, Aron emerged from the residence within an hour and was arrested by members of the SRT.

Police said a firearm was recovered from Aron’s residence.

Aron was charged with aggravated attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

He is being held at Cumberland County Jail without bail.
