The Fairfax County, Virginia, Police Department released disturbing footage from September of an officer fatally shooting a former Georgetown University women’s basketball player in self-defense after she attacked him with a knife.

The graphic footage shows Officer Peter Liu arriving at the door of Sydney Wilson, 33, after a mental health expert asked police to conduct a welfare check on Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston, Virginia.

The mental health professional warned police that Wilson was agitated.

Liu repeatedly knocked on Wilson’s door, trying to carry out the wellness check. Wilson opened the door, greeted Liu, then quickly shut it again.

She then opened the door again and can be heard saying, “How are you?” while slashing Liu with a knife.

Liu then retreats down the hallway and draws his gun while begging Wilson to back off.

Wilson can be seen ignoring Liu’s pleas and charging at him with a knife, stabbing him repeatedly as he attempts to flee.

Liu fires his weapon at Wilson five times before she collapses and stops pursuing him.

The body camera footage then shows Liu using his radio to report the shooting and call for a medic, as he lowers himself to the floor, and blood can be seen dripping from his wounds and falling in front of the camera.

More officers responded to the scene and tried to give Wilson medical aid, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Liu’s injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.

Images show his face covered in blood dripping from a gash on his forehead.

The Fairfax County Police Department has placed Liu on restricted-duty status during its ongoing investigation into the shooting.

The incident took place on September 16, but the body camera footage was not released until Monday, allowing time for some to seemingly side with Wilson.

Shortly after the fatal shooting, the Georgetown University women’s basketball X account made a post mourning Wilson’s death as a “tragic loss.”

The basketball team seemed to portray Wilson in a favorable light, connecting her with the school’s Georgetown Hoyas athletics teams.

“Georgetown women’s basketball mourns the tragic loss of Sydney Wilson (C’13). Forever a Hoya,” they said.

Commenters overwhelmed the post with negative replies, pointing out that the footage appeared to show her stabbing a police officer.

The Georgetown women’s basketball account has not deleted its post.

Looks like self defense to me . If the cop had used a larger caliber gun he wouldn’t have had to shoot her as many times . Another “ celebrated “ deranged psycho bites the dust . Too bad , So sad . .

TGP artcle says Wilson was 6’5″, 335 lb. That’s a bit different from “6-foot-tall”. Officer was slashed down and across the forehead and was dripping enough blood that supposedly the EMTs gave him blood.

What is it these people don’t understand ?
If you run toward a cop with a knife in your hand you’re going to get shot .
Especially if you’re a crazy big shot Amazon basketball player .
Gone and next to be forgotten .
