Maine State Police arrested 26-year-old Samuel Bell on Sunday after he allegedly shot and attempted to murder his mother in her Belgrade home.

Troopers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence on Point Road at approximately 11:03 a.m.

When they arrived, they found Bell’s mother, 58-year-old Christina Bell, with serious injuries.

She was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland, later transferred to a hospital in Boston, and is expected to survive.

Samuel Bell allegedly fled the scene in his car, with troopers in pursuit.

Troopers arrested Bell without incident a short time later on the nearby Guptill Road.

They transported Bell to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility, where he was charged with attempted murder and elevated aggravated assault.

Bell was not living with his mother at the time of the shooting, and police did not provide any details on the possible motive for the attempted murder.
