U.S. Increases PRC Deportation Flights Amid Surge in Illegal Chinese Immigration

From 2007 to 2018, just 4,329 Chinese nationals were caught sneaking into the US. In 2024 alone, that number increased to 78,701.

The U.S. government has executed the fourth “large-frame charter removal flight” returning Chinese illegal aliens to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in less than six months, the Department of Homeland Security announced Wednesday.

The Dec. 9 flight carried Chinese nationals who had no lawful basis to remain in the United States.

Illegal immigration by Chinese nationals has increased exponentially during the Biden Administration, with a record 78,701 Chinese nationals attempting to enter the U.S. illegally in FY 2024, according to DHS data. In 2022, that number was just 27,756, growing to 52,700 in 2023.

For comparison, DHS data shows that during the entire period from 2007 to 2018 a grand total of 4,329 Chinese nationals were encountered attempting to enter the U.S. illegally, including 3,814 at the southern border and 372 at the northern border.

Although, as with illegal aliens of other nationalities, the majority of the illegal border crossing surge has occurred at the southern border with Mexico, encounters at the northern border have also increased, including in Maine.

In the three fiscal years from 2022 to 2024, the northern border saw 30,307 attempted illegal crossings by individuals DHS described as Chinese nationals.

In FY 2023 and FY 2024, immigration authorities based in Maine reported 27 and 22 encounters, respectively, with Chinese illegal aliens.

DHS touted the Dec. 9 deportation flight as sending a message to would-be migrants: don’t trust the promises of smugglers.

“The United States continues to enforce immigration law,” the department stated. “Those without a legal basis to remain will be swiftly removed.”

According to the DHS, many of the individuals involved in the sprawling black-market marijuana criminal activity that has taken over rural Maine are present in the U.S. illegally.
