Once again, a Maine transgender-identifying male athlete seized victory over girls at a high school track meet on Friday, as Gov. Janet Mills (D-Maine) continues to resist President Donald Trump’s executive order barring males from girls’ sports.
Meanwhile, the Maine Principals’ Association insists the state’s policy does not discriminate against girls and is consistent with Title IX, and recently offered a legal memo from a powerful law firm in the state that counsels school districts on how to forestall parental engagement in their policies in support of their position.

“Today a biological male won the 800 & 1600 in the girls division at a Maine track meet. Every girl who placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and further in those races was pushed aside so a boy could “win.” This is NOT fair. Our girls deserve a fair, safe, and level playing field,” said Rep. Laurel Libby (R-Auburn) on X.
A transgender-identifying male runner from North Yarmouth Academy took first place in both the 800 and 1,600-meter runs at the POLAND-NYA-YARMOUTH-SEACOAST track meet at the Sacopee Vally High School.
The now high school senior runner has been making headlines for years after taking victories away from the female athletes he has defeated.
On Friday, the trans-identifying runner trounced his female competitors in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:57.27, compared to the top female competitor, Anelise Feldman, who came in at 6:16.32. In the 800-meter run, he won by a smaller margin, coming in at 2:43.31, with Lilah Connor finishing just one second after him at 2:44.87.
If he had competed against males, the same result would have earned him 12th place in the 1,600-meter and eighth place in the 800-meter.
One photographer, David Young, who attended the event and posted pictures of it on his Facebook page, told Fox News that multiple spectators were cheering for the transgender-identifying student, and there were no protests against him.
The transgender-identifying student’s victory comes as Maine is involved in an intensifying battle against the federal government’s interpretation of Title IX anti-discrimination laws, which require that males not be allowed to compete in girls’ sports.
Gov. Mills’ refusal to comply has resulted in a loss of some federal education funding for the state, and a promise of further funding losses. Instead of capitulating to restore funding, Maine has sued the federal government over the funding rescission.
