Two people, including a man who was on probation for prior drug trafficking convictions, were arrested last week in Auburn as part of an ongoing investigation of local drug dealing.
Auburn Police say that on Wednesday, May 7, their Proactive Community Enforcement (PACE) Unit received information regarding suspected drug trafficking activity involving Mouamed Mouamed, a 27-year-old Auburn resident.
According to police, Mouamed is currently on probation, is participating in the Adult Drug Treatment Court due to prior drug trafficking convictions, is under court and probation conditions prohibiting the use of possession of illegal drugs, and is subject to search by law enforcement.
Police say that in the course of their investigation, they found that Mouamed was maintaining an unreported residence at 407 Center St. in Auburn.
During a search of the apartment, police discovered and seized a safe, which officers believed contained illegal drugs.
A search warrant was obtained and executed on the safe, which contained over 120 grams of cocaine, 4.1 grams of cocaine base (crack cocaine), 1.2 grams of suspected fentanyl, including scales and packaging materials, and nearly $7,700 cash in suspected drug proceeds.

Mouamed was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- Two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs (Class A, due to prior convictions);
- Two counts of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs (Class B);
- Unlawful possession of scheduled drugs (Class B);
- Two counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs (Class C);
- Violation of conditions of release (Class E).
Mouamed was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail where he is being held without bail.

Also arrested days later on May 9 was a female associate of Mouamed, 27-year-old Shaima Naji, also an Auburn resident.
Naji was taken into custody by police at the same Center Street apartment, and was charged with:
- Aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs (Class A);
- Two counts of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs (Class B);
- Three counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs (Class C).
Naji was also transported to the Androscoggin County Jail, where her bail was set at $5,000 cash.
