The Rockland Police Department arrested a Whitfield man on Thursday after he allegedly broke into a Rockland apartment, stole a safe, and filled it with skunk essence.

On Monday, Rockland Police received a report of a burglary at an apartment.

The town’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) found that a suspect had allegedly broken into the apartment when its owner was on vacation and had stolen a safe.

The suspect also reportedly doused the apartment in liquid skunk essence.

After searching through security footage from nearby businesses, officers were able to locate the stolen items in a nearby dumpster and recover them.

As part of the investigation, on Thursday, the Rockland CID and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at a Whitefield residence.

Later that same day, officers arrested Robert King Jr., 60, of Whitefield on an arrest warrant for felony burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, and theft.

I’ll go out on a limb here and say the guy knows the apartment owner.

I wonder how he got the skunk to hold still long enough for him to extract the essence.
