At around 4:30 p.m., the Brewer Police Department received a report from the alleged victim, who claimed that her husband, Edward Malone, 54, was destroying their hotel room, and refusing to leave. The victim, who is pregnant, also claimed that her husband had used a piece of broken glass to attack and cut her.
When officers arrived, the victim had escaped the room, but officers believed that Malone had barricaded himself in the hotel room and had access to knives.
Deputies from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s office, officers from the Holden Police Department, and Maine State Police troopers arrived to secure the area, and a negotiator from the Holden Police Department attempted unsuccessfully to communicate with Malone.
A Maine State Police Tactical Team also responded to the scene, and law enforcement secured a search warrant for the room and an arrest warrant for Malone.
After assembling officers from a variety of departments, and receiving a search warrant for the room, police realized by watching security footage that Malone was not actually inside, and had left before they even arrived.
They received a tip that he was hiding in Hampden, and Hampden police officers, along with Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputies, located and arrested Malone around 7:30 p.m.
He now faces a slew of charges for domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, reckless conduct, domestic violence elevated aggravated assault against a pregnant person, and gross sexual assault.
