Stolt was fishing when his dog jumped out of his 23-foot boat near Lines Island. Stolt then plunged into the water after the dog in an attempt to rescue it.
A witness called 911 and reported seeing two people in the water, and the Maine Marine Patrol received notice around 2:10 p.m.
The Marine Patrol began a search for Stolt with the help of the U.S. Coast Guard, the State Police Marine Patrol Underwater Recovery Team, the Maine Forest Service, and the local police and fire departments.
Other boaters rescued a female passenger from Stolt’s boat, along with the dog he attempted to rescue, and another dog that also ended up in the water.
The female passenger was treated for minor injuries by emergency services.
The search stopped temporarily due to a lack of visibility around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, and resumed, around 5:00 a.m. on Monday with boats and planes from the Marine Patrol. No updates have been issued since Monday afternoon.
