An illegal alien from Mexico was sentenced in the U.S. District Court in Portland to ten months in prison on Friday after he pleaded guilty to illegally re-entering the U.S. following a prior deportation.
The illegal immigrant, Miguel Gomez-Sanchez, 45, pleaded guilty in June after he was arrested by the Maine State Police the month prior.
Police stopped Gomez-Sanches in May after he was found driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol on I-95. After the stop, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that he had been removed from the U.S. and had illegally re-entered on several occasions.
He was most recently removed in 2022, after another conviction for illegal re-entry.
Gomez-Sanches seems likely to be deported after he serves his 10-month sentence.
