The Maine man discovered dead in a bloody car parked near South Shore Hospital in Massachusetts has been identified.
Declan Perry, 27, of Portland, was found wrapped in several blankets secured with duct tape in the backseat of a black 2019 Honda Civic shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Civic – with a bullet hole in the windshield – had been apparently abandoned adjacent to the Weymouth hospital’s emergency room entrance when Perry’s body was found by passers-by.
Perry was declared dead just minutes after his body was discovered in the car, which had Maine plates.
TV news video from the bizarre scene showed investigators near the vehicle.
After seeing news coverage of the discovery of the body, residents living in a Scituate condominium complex contacted police.
They reported seeing a man “loading a large, heavy blanket into a black Honda Civic at their neighbor’s residence earlier Saturday,” Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said.
“I’m absolutely shocked that they are executing search warrants and there’s actual evidence that somebody was loading a body into a car,” Mike Marini told WCVB. “That’s not something you hear every day.”
A search warrant for the home turned up several pieces of evidence, which were seized by Massachusetts State Police and Scituate police.
The precise manner and cause of Perry’s death, which police have referred to as “suspicious,” will be determined by the Massachusetts chief medical examiner.
Perry and a suspect in the killing “knew each other,” according to Cruz.
