Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies took two suspects into custody following an incident in Glenburn on Sunday, when a group of masked individuals allegedly opened fire at a residence, causing significant property damage.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department received reports at around 3:10 p.m. Sunday from a homeowner on Danforth Drive claiming that “several” masked suspects had opened fire on her home and vehicle.
The homeowner said that none of the occupants had been injured in the barrage, but that the shooters caused significant damage to her residence and car. She was able to provide a detailed description of the suspects as they fled the scene, though they were reportedly masked during the incident.
Deputies were dispatched and encountered the suspects fleeing in a vehicle on Union Street in Hermon. Law enforcement attempted to stop the vehicle, which reportedly accelerated and continued to flee.
The suspects allegedly drove onto Davis Road in Bangor and slowed at the Finson Road intersection. When the vehicle slowed, two suspects reportedly got out and fled on foot, while the driver continued back toward Glenburn.
The Bangor Police Department joined the search for the two suspects on foot, and K-9 units from the sheriff’s department and local police aided in the search.
One suspect was located quickly, found hiding under a mobile home.
While K-9 units searched for the fleeing suspects, law enforcement continued pursuing the vehicle. After taking multiple turns, the suspect reportedly abandoned the car and entered a residential home not affiliated with him.
Officers entered the home and took the suspect into custody, although he resisted arrest.
Law enforcement continues to search for the second suspect who fled on foot, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The sheriff’s department has not released information on the motive behind the incident and has not named the two suspects who were arrested. Officials said more information will be released when appropriate.
