The Lincoln Town Hall shut down on Monday following a “cybersecurity incident” that encrypted some files on the town’s computer network.
Lincoln announced the security breach on Saturday after it was notified by its information technology provider, the Motorbrain Group, of an incident.
Motorbrain informed the town that a portion of its files had been encrypted, making them inaccessible.
The town immediately took steps to isolate the impacted system to prevent any additional files from becoming affected.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the breach may have started on Thursday.
Several of the town’s systems, including its main file server and network infrastructure, were impacted.
The town’s IT team is working to investigate, reviewing backups, and attempting to develop a plan for restoring the data.
Systems are set to be brought back online methodically to prevent re-infection.
The full scope of the incident remains under investigation.
A day after the initial notification, the town announced that its office would be closed on Monday as restoration efforts remain underway.
The origin or motive behind the incident remains unknown.

Any voting records touched. Just asking for a friend in Agusta
costs some money to secure a network. I am willing to bet they didnt want to pony up the funds needed.
