Deputies responded after a call at around 12:54 a.m. from a resident of County Road, near Milford’s Dr. Lewis S. Libby School.

The caller reported loud bangs outside his house, and saw on his home security cameras that a man had come onto his property and allegedly broke into his car.

An investigation revealed that Brian Coston, 44, had allegedly entered the car, found a handgun inside, and discharged it multiple times, damaging the vehicle.

He then reportedly fled the scene and left the firearm in the car.

Another 911 caller reported later that a man was yelling outside Milford’s Freshies store, and Maine State Police assisted a sheriff’s deputy in responding to the scene.

When officers arrived, they discovered and arrested Coston, who faces charges for possession of a firearm as a prohibited person, criminal mischief, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a school, with more charges possibly forthcoming.
