Bangor police officer Mark Hutchings was on Main Street on Wednesday morning when he noticed a vehicle matching the description of one that had been reported stolen in Brewer.

Officer Hutchings followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The driver reportedly came to a stop initially before allegedly fleeing and starting a pursuit.

The driver reportedly attempted to escape via multiple side streets. At one point, he allegedly turned from Webster Avenue onto Hammond Street before driving through a parking lot, where he reportedly crashed into a decorative stone pillar.

As a result of the crash, the vehicle sustained a flat tire, and lost its front bumper.

The driver eventually came to a stop near the intersection of Buck Street and Webster Ave, and police took the 14-year-old into custody.

He faces charges for refusing to stop for law enforcement, aggravated criminal mischief, driving to endanger, refusal to submit to arrest, and unauthorized use of property.
