The Lewiston Police Department arrested a 14-year-old suspect on Friday after he allegedly shot at an apartment building and two vehicles while attempting to shoot another person.

Police responded at around 11:00 p.m. on Thursday to reports of gunfire in the area of 144 Pierce Street.

Police arrived to discover two vehicles and an apartment building damaged by gunfire, though no one was reported injured.

Witnesses reported that they saw a young male suspect firing at another individual, but both the alleged shooter and his target fled before the police arrived.

During the investigation, police determined that the suspect had entered 158 Blake Street and called the Maine State Police Tactical Team to assist in executing a search warrant at the location.

On Friday afternoon, police issued a press release warning that the suspect remained at large and asking anyone with information to come forward.

Following the initial release, police issued an update. They executed a search at 158 Blake Street but did not find the suspect. However, the search revealed information suggesting that the suspect had fled the area and led officers to identify a possible hiding place outside of town.

That information eventually led officers to the 14-year-old suspect, who was taken into custody. He was transported to the Long Creek Youth Development Center, where he is being held.
