The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department arrested two juveniles and one adult on Friday in connection with a Bowdoinham burglary that sparked a manhunt and led a local elementary school to lock down.
A group of three individuals allegedly burglarized a home on Post Road at around 7:15 a.m. on Friday morning. The situation was initially reported as a criminal threatening incident, which included mention of a firearm.
Officers arrived on the scene and quickly arrested one suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, but two other suspects remained at large, prompting a manhunt.
The Sheriff’s Department requested that the nearby elementary school, Bowdoinham Community School, be placed on lockdown.
At 8:23 a.m., Maine School Administrative District (MSAD) 75 Superintendent Heidi OāLeary announced the lockdown. Shortly thereafter, she announced that classes would be canceled for the rest of the day.
During the search, the Sagadahoc County Emergency Management Agency released an extremely low-resolution photo of the two remaining suspects, asking the public for information on their whereabouts.
According to Sagadahoc Sheriff Joel Merry, speaking during a press conference, authorities initially believed that the suspects had fled into the woods and deployed K9 units to follow a trail that led near the school.
Depities eventually found the suspectsāone juvenile and an adult who was not namedāinside the Post Road home they allegedly burglarized.
No firearm was recovered despite the allegations of threats, and authorities did not announce charges against the suspects.
The school lifted its lockdown at 11:50 a.m., after the suspects were taken into custody.
