At around 7:02 a.m., police initiated a traffic stop of James Marquis Anderson, 20, of Biddeford, at the corner of Spring and State Streets for unspecified reasons.
During the stop, the officer noticed a large knife inside the vehicle and used that to establish probable cause to search the vehicle.
The officer allegedly discovered an unloaded “AK-47 style” rifle, two 20-round boxes of ammunition, and 21 loose rounds of ammunition.
He also reportedly discovered 4.7 grams of methamphetamine, 0.4 grams of crack cocaine, and 2.3 grams of cocaine HCl.
The Portland officer arrested Anderson on charges of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail, where he incurred an additional charge of trafficking in prison contraband.
