The Norway Police Department arrested a fugitive wanted on domestic violence charges since 2024 on Tuesday following a 12-hour standoff.
On Tuesday morning, the Norway Police Department received credible information that Patrick McInnis, who has allegedly been evading law enforcement since 2024 despite eight active arrest warrants, was hiding out at 168 Main Street.
Norway police officers collaborated with the Rumford and Oxford Police Departments and the Maine State Police to create a perimeter around the residence.
Law enforcement also locked down an area of Main Street and evacuated nearby residences. Officers made repeated, unsuccessful attempts to make contact with McInnis over the course of several hours.
Eventually, the Maine State Police Tactical Team responded to assist in the execution of a search warrant at the residence due to the nature of the charges brought against the fugitive.
Following an over 12-hour standoff, law enforcement located McInnis inside the residence and took him into custody.
He was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital for evaluation before being taken to Oxford County Jail.
The Norway police press release did not specify what caused the active warrants against McInnis, but The Maine Wire spoke to Norway Police Chief Jeffrey Campbell, who clarified that he was wanted on domestic violence charges, including violating a protection order.
Chief Campbell told The Maine Wire that McInnis has a long history of domestic violence-related incidents.
According to a 2022 press release from the Rumford Police Department, McInnis was extradited to Maine from Arizona that year after he was caught by U.S. Marshals while on the run from arrest warrants for domestic terrorizing, violation of bail, violation of a protection order, and harassment.
At that time, police warned that he might be armed and dangerous.
