Maine’s first large-scale AI data center is being planned for the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone.
Developed by Loring LiquidCool Data Center and Green 4 Maine LLC, the facility is slated to open early next year.
The center, which will use advanced liquid-cooling technology, will be powered partly by hydropower from New Brunswick.
The facility will be housed in a warehouse at the former Air Force base.
LiquidCool Solutions, has signed a “long-term” lease for 115,000 square feet of space within the 450 acres of the former base.
Limestone is perhaps best known as the home of a former Air Force base – and ground zero for America’s post-World War II, easternmost-U.S. A-bomb bunkers.
The base’s 1994 closure sparked a decline from which the town has struggled to recover.
Among those desperate to find a successful economic revival as a political springboard is Democrat gubernatorial hopeful and former state Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash.
Jackson last year promised “I won’t give up on Limestone” during one of his legislative proposals to help redevelop the region.
He is among six Democrats running for governor, including Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, Sen. Angus King’s son Angus King III and U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree’s daughter Hannah Pingree.
