The Bangor Police Department arrested a Massachusetts man on Sunday after he allegedly caused a three-car crash when he fell asleep at the wheel while driving with a suspended license.
Shortly before 4:00 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Ohio Street and Griffin Road after reports of a three-car crash.
Witnesses told officers that Seth McLaughlin, 40, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, ran a red light and struck a vehicle traveling through an intersection, propelling the struck vehicle into a third, stationary vehicle.
Two people in the stationary vehicle were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and other parties had minor injuries treated on the scene.
McLaughlin reportedly told officers that he had been awake since the early morning and that he had fallen asleep at the wheel.
He said that he was taking his two children, who were passengers at the time of the crash, back to their mother’s house.
Investigators found that McLaughlin was out on bail at the time of the crash and that he was allegedly driving with a suspended license.
He was transported to the Penobscot County Jail and faces criminal charges for two counts of violating conditions of release, driving to endanger, and civil charges for driving with a suspended license and failure to stop at a red light.
