Former Saco Mayor Bill Doyle is one of two candidates vying for the vacant Ward 3 City Council seat in a special election now set for January 2026.

The seat opened up in early October following the resignation of former Councilor Joe Gunn. Candidates were required to submit completed nomination papers to the city clerk’s office by 1 p.m. on November 14th.

According to the city, Doyle, a former mayor, and Robert Henry are the two candidates officially on the ballot. A third Ward 3 resident, Emily McElveen, had taken out nomination papers but did not return them by the deadline.

Ward 3 residents will cast their ballots in the special election on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026. The winner will serve the remainder of the council term, which runs through Dec. 6, 2027.

Polling locations for the January election will be announced once confirmed, and absentee voting details, along with sample ballots, will be available closer to the election date.

For more information on the boundaries of Saco’s Ward 3, residents can refer to the City Charter or view the ward map on the city’s website.
