The Rockland Police Department arrested a juvenile on Monday following an alleged shooting incident sparked by a dispute over social media posts.
On Friday, Halloween, at around 9:00 p.m., Rockland police responded to reports of shots fired at the city’s public restrooms on Tillson Ave.
Officers arrived, but did not locate the suspect on scene.
Police began an investigation, which included interviewing witnesses, collecting security footage, and gathering physical evidence.
Their investigation revealed that a juvenile suspect had allegedly entered into a verbal confrontation with a young adult over a social media post.
During the dispute, the juvenile allegedly displayed a firearm, fired into the air, and then aimed the weapon in the direction of the young adult and a group of approximately ten other juveniles.
Following the initial alleged shooting, the juvenile suspect fired several additional shots in the direction of a nearby water treatment plant, though no one was injured.
On Monday, the Rockland Police Department arrested the juvenile without incident.
He was transported to the Long Creek Youth Development Center and faces charges of felony reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, felony criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, unlawful concealment of a firearm, and discharge of a firearm within less than 100 yards of a dwelling.
