The Lewiston Police Department arrested a man on Thursday after he allegedly burglarized a smoke shop.

Earlier last week, the Lewiston police issued a statement including the suspect’s image from security footage, asking for public assistance in identifying the suspect.

In response to that post, the Wiscasset Police Department reached out after their investigators recognized the suspect as Matthew Hamill, who they had reportedly arrested recently in connection with a similar crime.

With that information, the Lewiston Police Department arrested Hamill in connection with an October 27 burglary at the Discount Smoke Shop located at 510 Sabattus Street.

He faces charges of burglary, theft by unauthorized taking, criminal mischief, and violating conditions of release.
