The Maine State Police arrested an Alabama woman on Tuesday after an I-95 pursuit through Androscoggin County.

The Augusta Regional Communications Center received numerous calls at around 5:38 p.m. reporting an erratic driver.

According to reports, the operator of a red SUV was traveling at high speed while weaving in and out of traffic on I-95 around Auburn.

Troopers tried and failed to locate the vehicle initially, but a short time later, they spotted the SUV traveling southbound around mile marker 83 in Lewiston.

They initiated a stop, but the driver reportedly fled.

Eventually, law enforcement deployed spike strips around mile marker 68 in New Gloucester. The SUV struck the strips, and its tires were deflated.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop shortly before the toll plaza, and troopers initiated a high-risk stop.

During the stop, southbound traffic was stopped completely.

Troopers arrested the driver, Carla Williams, 51, of Homewood, Alabama, and charged her with failing to stop for a law enforcement officer and driving to endanger.

She was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. Police have not released a mugshot of Williams.
