At approximately 3:40 p.m., deputies, along with Poland Fire-Rescue, responded to Plains Road in the 300 block to reports of a head-on collision involving two vehicles.

Deputies arrived to discover one driver, Dylan Sanphy, 26, of Gorham, dead on the scene.

A preliminary investigation reportedly revealed that Edward Morris, 52, of Mechanic Falls, was traveling westbound on Plains Road in a silver 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 while towing a snowmobile trailer.

At the same time, Sanphy was reportedly driving eastbound in a gray 2016 Jeep Cherokee when he allegedly tried to pass another vehicle.

While passing, Sanphy allegedly smashed head-on into Morris’s vehicle.

In addition to Sanphy’s death, two adult female passengers in Morris’s Jeep were seriously injured and transported to the Maine Medical Center for treatment.

After an on-scene evaluation, Morris was determined not to need hospitalization.

The vehicle that Sanphy passed was reportedly a Subaru that did not stay on scene, but after the initial press release on Wednesday morning, the drivers came forward and spoke with law enforcement.
