PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland International Jetport announced Thursday that 2025 was the busiest year in the airport’s history, with 2,593,067 passengers flying in and outbreaking the record set in 2024 of 2,438,054.
The Jetport said passenger traffic has rebounded quickly since the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Airport officials noted the Jetport was the first airport in New England to surpass pre-pandemic levels in 2023, as service continued to build in the years that followed.
“Another record setting year is in the books,” said Airport Director Paul Bradbury. “We can’t emphasize enough how unusual it is for northern New England to outperform the region. It is a testament to the strength of the Portland and Maine markets that we continue to thrive in a challenging environment,” he continued.
In 2025, nine airlines provided service to 27 nonstop destinations, with American Airlines carrying the most passengers. The Jetport reported American flew 726,443 travelers, accounting for 28.01% of all passengers.

New Nonstop Destinations Added in 2025
The Jetport said new routes launched last year included Breeze Airways to Columbus, Ohio, Avelo Airlines to New Haven, Connecticut, and United Airlines to Houston, Texas.
Expanded Amenities and Passenger Services
Airport officials also highlighted new passenger amenities added in 2025. In July, the Jetport cut the ribbon on a $21.6 million, 4,200-square-foot addition to the passenger concourse, adding three new passenger boarding bridges, seven ADA-accessible all-gender restrooms, and a new service animal relief area. The Jetport described the project as a key part of its strategy to maintain customer experience while traffic continues to climb.
The Jetport also said it engaged GoogleMaps to provide in-terminal navigation for passengers. While designed primarily as a resource for vision-impaired and neurodivergent travelers, the app is available to all passengers to help navigate the airport.
More Service Coming in 2026
While 2025 set the record, the Jetport said the trend is continuing into 2026. In January, United Airlines announced Saturday service during peak summer months to San Francisco and Los Angeles, which the Jetport said will be the first transcontinental flights from Maine to California.
