The Bangor Police Department arrested a Guilford man on kidnapping charges on Thursday after he allegedly held a woman prisoner at gunpoint.

A woman called the Bangor police, claiming that she had been assaulted and held at gunpoint while staying in a Bangor hotel room.

She told police that she had been staying at an Odlin Road motel with Joseph Pepin, 48, of Guilford, over the week.

On the night of March 11, she told officers, she attempted to leave, and Pepin allegedly threatened her with a firearm and prevented her from leaving the room.

She said that she was eventually able to escape and call police.

Officers responded, and the Bangor Police’s Criminal Investigation Division recovered a firearm from the motel and arrested Pepin.

Pepin was charged with kidnapping, domestic violence criminal threatening, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited individual.

He was transported to the Penobscot County Jail.

Pepin was reportedly arrested in 2023 on charges of robbery, theft by unauthorized taking, and violating conditions of release.
