Firefighter Katie Paige has experienced a delay in her recovery from injuries sustained in the devastating Robbins Lumber explosion.
News of the setback in recuperation comes from Paige’s husband Paul, according to a national website monitoring her treatment at Maine Medical Center.
Paul said doctors have determined that some of Katie’s skin grafts are not healing as expected in a few areas.
As a result, she will not be able to return home as soon as originally hoped.
Medical staff plan to reevaluate her condition in the coming days to determine the next steps in her treatment and recovery.
The update comes after weeks of encouraging progress, including multiple surgeries and successful graft procedures.
Family members had recently been optimistic that Katie could soon leave the hospital and continue her recovery at home.
Paul also shared the emotional toll the lengthy hospitalization has taken on both of them, saying Katie is feeling stressed while he remains exhausted from the ongoing challenges.
Despite the setback, supporters across Maine continue to rally around the injured firefighter, offering prayers and encouragement as she works toward recovery.
Katie was seriously injured while responding to a fire and explosion a month ago at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont.
The blast killed firefighters Andrew Cross and Wayne Woodbury and injured numerous first responders and mill workers.
Family members remain hopeful that Katie’s recovery will continue moving in a positive direction following the upcoming medical evaluation.

I will say a prayer for this heroโs recovery .
Thank YOU Katie for your service !
