Another day, another shooting has shaken Lewiston, as police continue to grapple with a wave of gun violence that has plagued the city throughout the year.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, Lewiston Police responded to the area of Bartlett Street and Walnut Street after receiving reports of gunfire.

According to investigators, a brief altercation involving several males preceded the shooting. During the confrontation, a 21-year-old man was shot in the leg. His identity has not been released.

The victim was transported to Central Maine Medical Center, where he remains in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Following interviews with dozens of witnesses and a review of numerous surveillance videos, detectives identified the alleged shooter as 20-year-old Ethan Parrilla of Lewiston.

Police arrested Parrilla and charged him with Attempted Murder and Elevated Aggravated Assault.

The investigation remains active, and additional charges could follow as detectives continue to gather evidence. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Lewiston Police Department.

A booking photograph is expected to be released once Parrilla has been processed.

The latest shooting adds to an already troubling year of gun violence in Lewiston. The city has experienced a series of shootings involving both juveniles and adults in recent months, with multiple incidents occurring in the downtown area. Several neighborhoods have repeatedly become crime scenes as investigators respond to gunfire that has damaged homes, vehicles, and businesses, while leaving residents increasingly concerned about public safety.

Monday’s shooting also occurred just blocks from other recent violent incidents, underscoring the ongoing challenges facing law enforcement as officers work with state and federal partners to combat violent crime in the city.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lewiston Police Department.
