The gay community is publicizing Jordan Wood as a logical alternative to Graham Platner, touting his sexual preference as an asset.
“I am told that a gay man can’t win,” Wood said as he announced his candidacy. “Cynics are wrong.”
He was quoted by the website LGBTQ Nation, which headlined his being gay could help him “become Maine’s next U.S. senator.”
Wood announced for the Senate last year but instead opted to run for the U.S. House after Jared Golden said he wasn’t running for re-election.
After losing that race Wood decided to re-enter the Senate race once Graham Platner withdrew following an ex-girlfriend’s accusing him of rape.
“I have been told that I am too progressive, that I am too young, that a gay man can’t win,” Wood said in a statement posted to social media. “These cynics are wrong. They have been wrong all our lives. They remain wrong today. I’m asking for your support to take back control of our party and our country.”
The Democrat party is now scrambling to replace Platner with a viable candidate to beat five-term GOP Sen. Susan Collins “and a gay man is fighting to be that candidate,” writes LGBTQ deputy editor Molly Sprayregen.
Wood, former chief of staff for a California congresswoman, told LGBTQ Nation that “our country is in a moment of crisis and the future of our democracy is at stake.”

We have much to be concerned about and it’s not you being gay
I don’t care what his alphabet letters are. Conservatives only apply.
