Three people were injured Monday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash involving two dump trucks and two passenger vehicles on Washington Avenue, according to Portland Police.
Officers responded to the intersection of Washington Avenue and Byfield Road at approximately 12:44 p.m. on July 13.
Investigators determined that an 82-year-old man driving a dump truck swerved to avoid traffic that had stopped in front of him. He then swerved back to avoid oncoming traffic, triggering a crash involving a second dump truck, a Toyota Tacoma and a Toyota Corolla.
The Tacoma was occupied by a 56-year-old woman and a 79-year-old woman. The Corolla was driven by a 25-year-old man.
All three were transported to Maine Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The second dump truck was operated by a 34-year-old man.
Washington Avenue remained closed for approximately two hours while investigators examined the scene and crews cleared the roadway.
The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit assisted Portland Police with the investigation.
No charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation.
