Rep. Golden Pushes Compromise Bill on Border and Foreign Aid

Maine Congressman Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) took to X on Friday to draw support for a compromise bill meant to provide foreign aid for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan while making some concessions on border security.

“I’m leading a new bipartisan effort to bypass the most extreme members of both parties and deliver a solution that can pass the House,” said Rep. Golden on X.

🧵Our country cannot afford to wait a year to secure the southern border. That's why today I'm leading a new bipartisan effort to bypass the most extreme members of both parties and deliver a solution that can pass the House.

— Congressman Jared Golden (@RepGolden) February 16, 2024

Golden went on to praise his bill as a collaborative effort between five Democrats and five Republicans, which he believes will have more of a chance at success than the disastrous border bill proposed earlier this month, or the standalone foreign aid bill currently under consideration.

“I’m confident this more targeted approach can get enough support to force a floor debate, and ultimately, be signed into law,” said Golden.

Golden’s bill, which was introduced by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pennsylvania), will provide foreign aid for Ukraine and Israel, while giving border patrol agents the ability to process people entering the country illegally for removal without additional hearings.

The bill does, however, allow any person entering illegally to make an asylum claim, which will then be evaluated to determine if the asylum seeker has met his burden of proof.

The bill also grants the Secretary of Homeland Security the right to entirely close the border if it is deemed necessary to stop the influx of illegal aliens.

It is unlikely that, even if this bill passes, Alejandro Mayorkas, the current Secretary of Homeland Security, would use that power, as he was recently impeached for facilitating the border crisis.

The bill also prevents federal funds from being used to transport illegals from the facility in which they were first detained for any purpose other than adjudicating the alien’s immigration status.

The bill, which provides billions in foreign military aid, would end the aid on September 30, 2024, which is significantly earlier than the standalone foreign aid bill, which would continue well into 2025.

This would diffuse the possible trap which Sen. J.D Vance (R-Ohio) saw in the standalone aid bill, which could have given Democrats a pretext to impeach Frmr. President Donald Trump if he wins re-election and tries to stop funding for the U.S.’s proxy war against Russia in Ukraine.

Counter offer: stop deficit spending the US dollar and sending billions overseas to increase your own personal wealth, protect our nation’s border with the same fervor you have for other countries’ borders. Stop facilitating illegal human trafficking. Stop using your political, economical, judicial, and enforcement powers against your political opponents. Let your citizens vote for their preferred candidate. And maybe, just maybe we’ll just let you rot in prison.

Close the border. Deport all illegals, asylees, fake refugees and migrants.. No aid for Taiwan. Definitely no more aid for Ukraine. Aid for our ally Israel. Otherwise, STFU! I don’t care what any political hack thinks unless he’s for America First.

Why two unrelated things have to be included in a bill makes me crazy. The border issue is simple CLOSE it! It is an invasion that we cannot afford. I have asked many what is the number of people that you would let in? Answer crickets. I also have to think if there were no social programs to assist these invaders how many would want to come? Just the ones that wish to do harm while here.

We don’t need Dems in Congress proposing legislation to close our southern border. The POTUS can do that by Executive Order. He has refused to do that for over 3 years. There was legislation in effect on JB’s first day in office. And it was working as all the documentation shows. He rescinded that legislation, on day one, that was protecting all Americans. Simply reinstate that legislation with the stroke of a pen. You Dems have had your voter recruitment drive at the southern border for over three years. And now in an election year, you would like Americans to believe that they are your first priority? Not happening.

Brian Fitzpatrick is probably the worst Republican in the House. If he supports it it’s likely bad, and from the details that seems correct. The “asylum seeker” loophole is the main thing fueling the invasion – if that’s not fixed it’s not worth it.

WHY should unelected bureaucrats have any power to do ANYTHING? WHY do we even have a Dept. of Homeland Security in the first place? We only got it due to the LIE that foreigners attacked us on 9/11. Evidently, if illegals are flooding over our southern border, DHS hasn’t been doing its job, & gets even worse at it every year.

Americans should demand that public officials honor their oath. Refusal to secure our borders is a repudiation of every public official’s oath of office !
