Dick’s: Liberal Sporting Goods Company Stops Selling Guns in Rural Maine

The last of four Dick’s Sporting Goods locations in Maine has stopped the sale of all firearms in the state, according to a report in the Bangor newspaper.

The Bangor location was the last to stop selling firearms, removing them, and other hunting equipment, from its shelves in January.

The politically motivated decision is sure to hurt the company’s sales, as Maine ranks among the top ten states for the number of registered hunters.

Dick’s decision to remove all firearms from Maine locations comes as left-wing lawmakers have increasingly pushed for gun control measures following the Oct. 25 mass shooting in Lewiston.

Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO, Ed Stack, has been a supporter of gun-control measures for years, and has been increasing the restrictions on firearm sales since 2012’s Sandy Hook school shooting.

Prior to that shooting, Dick’s had been one of the largest firearms sellers in the country, but following the shooting, Stack ordered the removal of all AR-15 rifles from its stores, sparking significant backlash from Second Amendment rights advocates.

In 2018, the chain stopped selling firearms to anyone under the age of 21, resulting in the loss of roughly $250 million for the company.

Those losses did not influence Stack to change his position. Instead, he ordered the destruction of the $5 million worth of “assault style” rifles still in-stock, which were then sold for scrap.

By 2020, the company had entirely removed the hunting departments from over 500 stores, with Maine’s stores just recently adding to that number.

In February, a coalition of 47 Maine house Democrats sent a petition to Maine’s only Cabela’s, and its parent company Bass Pro Shops, urging them to also stop the sale of firearms.

Cabela’s has continued to sell firearms even after pressure from state legislators.

Hunters and firearms owners who shopped at Dick’s have numerous alternatives, such as Cabela’s, where they can go instead to shop for firearms and hunting supplies.

Mainers who previously shopped at the Augusta Dick’s, can continue to purchase firearms in the city at The Gun Shop on Bangor Street.

In the Bangor area, hunters can shop at Dill’s Outdoors, and Maine Military Supply maintains a large gun shop and and shooting range in Holden.

In South Portland, they can go to Gadgets Gunshop, and in Topsham, shoppers can go to Jim’s Guns.

No reason to go there and buy their cheap Chinese crap.

I stopped shopping at Dick’s when they stopped supporting the 2nd Amendment about 4 or 5 years ago. They will go the way of Bed Bath and Beyond.

I stopped doing business with L L Beans years ago because of their left leaning firearm policies. I have never used Dicks, and as it looks will continue not doing so.

KTP also has a great firearms department.
The gun control nuts love to ignore the fact that areas with the largest number of firearms owners are the lowest violent crime areas.
I think that’s one of the reasons we haven’t seen the violence against citizens by illegals like other sanctuary states and cities have seen.

Dick’s should open up retail stores in Canada, as Justin Trudeau and his liberal wonks have ruined that country. Dick’s would fit right in.

Dick’s would fit right in up there in Canada, where Justin Trudeau and his liberal wonks have ruined that country.

No one bought guns at D’s anyway, way over priced. That’s why they had no problem shutten down sales. This is entirely for liberal credits and insurance discounts.

I won’t buy a pair of socks from Dick’s. Whatever I can’t get at Reny’s or Wally World I can get on line. Screw them.

Dick’s was so over priced that Istopped going there years ago. Without their selling guns and ammo, there is now no reason to go to see if the pricing has become more competitive.

I stopped buying anything at Dicks when they implemented the policy of paying employees to travel to states to get abortions when they were past the limits in their own state.

Many years ago Topsham Dick’s had a great firearms dept with some really good deals. They also had some very qualified people in the department. Think I bought 4 firearms there all ten years ago or more, once they started their crap I haven’t stepped foot in their stores anywhere! There are so many great firearms dealers around, T&K Tactical has been great to deal with very personable and professional.
