New Mainer at Arabella-Funded Dark Money Group Says Maine Should Give Up ‘privileged position’ in Electoral College ‘for the good of the country’

An “Economic Policy Analyst” at the left-wing dark money-funded think tank the Maine Center for Economic Policy (MECEP) is arguing that Maine should give up its “privileged position” in the Electoral College to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact for “the good of the country.”

The MECEP staffer, James Myall, took to X Wednesday to argue in favor of LD 1578, a bill that would grant Maine’s four electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate garners the most popular votes nationwide, regardless of who the majority of Mainers votes for.

The bill now heads for a potential signature from Gov. Janet Mills after it was passed by the Maine Senate Wednesday in an 18-12 vote, with only one Democrat, Sen. Craig Hickman of Kennebec, voting with nearly all Republicans against it.

[RELATED: Maine House Narrowly Approves National Popular Vote After Dem Lawmakers Leave Chamber Before Roll Call…]

Responding to an X user going by the handle “Native-Mainer” who asked Myall “how this bill is in Maines [sic] interest,” Myall wrote that “The best argument in [the bill’s] favor is that Maine is giving up a privileged position for the good of the country.”

The best argument in its favor is that Maine is giving up a privileged position for the good of the country.

— James Myall (@JamesxMyall) April 3, 2024

“That doesn’t fly for Maine….this is a discussion about what’s best for US…not the country,” the “Native-Mainer” X user argued back. “I just wish you would be transparent and say what your motivation is?”

“I value being an American above being a Mainer,” Myall — who became a naturalized U.S. citizen in January 2024 — rebutted. “I’d be fine giving up some advantage for the good of the country. Clearly you just make a different calculation. I don’t know why that’s impossible to understand.”

In another Wednesday post to X in defense of Maine joining the National Popular Vote Compact, Myall, who in his X bio calls himself a “British-American” and “Recovering historian,” wrote that he does not feel “particularly obligated” to follow the lead of the Founding Fathers of the United States.

“The founding fathers were fine with not holding popular elections for president at all, and just letting the state legislatures award the electors,” Myall wrote. “So I don’t feel obligated to follow their lead blindly.”

Myall is described by MECEP as the think tank’s โ€œlead on the inclusive economy, including research on labor issues, gender and racial equity, and health care policy.โ€

Myall also serves as a commissioner for Maineโ€™s Permanent Commission on the Status of Racial, Indigenous & Tribal Populations (PCRITP), a state commission charged with addressing โ€œstructural racismโ€ in Maine.

In November, Myall published a report for MECEP in which he argued in favor of increased immigration to Maine and the expansion of taxpayer-funded social services and housing for non-citizens to combat the stateโ€™s โ€œplateauing workforce.โ€

In the report, Myall also advocated for the removal of immigration status restrictions on the stateโ€™s MaineCare health insurance, subsidizing English language proficiency courses and scholarships for immigrants, and allowing illegal immigrants to obtain driverโ€™s licenses.

MECEP receives funding from the Hopewell Fund and the Maine Peopleโ€™s Resource Center, two of many nonprofit organizations in the network of left-wing โ€œdark moneyโ€ giant Arabella Advisors.

Weighing in on Myall’s statements, State Sen. Eric Brakey (R-Androscoggin) wrote “I don’t think Maine should give up its ‘privileged position’ and I don’t think empowering NYC, Chicago, and Los Angeles to rule us is what’s good for the nation.”

The purview of the Maine legislature is to advocate FOR the people of Maine, not to sacrifice our electoral power to others. The Democrats are not even trying to hide the fact that they donโ€™t represent the people of Maine. We had better figure out a way to get these people out of office. Itโ€™s getting late.

Just leftists who move from the states they’ve ruined, people immigrate here to escape their rotten countries and then try to change our country to be more like theirs.
I thought legal immigrants had to take civics classes.
This guy, and many Americans, don’t understand the electoral college and how it protects small states from the whims of large states or even large cities.

This scheme is clearly Unconstitutional. Our votes would go to the candidate with the most votes nationally regardless of how we vote. How is that either legal or Constitutional? It’s absolutely Unconstitutional.

Anytime I hear the word privileged I laugh and cringe. You know itโ€™s a lefty making that statement. This would definitely mean our votes would not count.

This anti-American can go “pluck” himself. We should run people like this out of the country. They do not deserve to live in a free country.

We are quickly becoming the Peoples Republic of Maine. The “representatives” do not represent our voice. They work diligently at every scurrilous thing they can think of to dilute our vote further. Only so that they can stay in power. There is zero other reason to be okay with letting NY, CA and other populus states decide where Maine’s vote is tallied.

Just another all-knowing, arrogant Lefty drone sucking down the NGO tax dollars & state stipends and worshipping at the SOROS altar while sneering at traditional Maine and American values. Ship him back to the UK where he can be helpless against the marauding hordes.

Leftist migrating into Maine from communist s&&t holes they have already ruined, and trying to turn what was once a conservative state into a marxist utopia, are going to provoke a civil war in our state if they keep this up. I have had a belly full of these commie goons in southern Maine (north Massachusetts) trying to rule over the rest of us. Go back to where you came from you marxist idiot.

I think this Myall has a problem, he obviously lied to get citizenship, so I would say if we had a real American as president I’d suggest revoking his citizenship! Seeing that that won’t happen Maybe Mainers ought to shun this slimy limey, his time here won’t last long I’m sure he’ll move on to the next place to ‘spread’ his marxist garbage. Like I said he’s not an American and he’s definitely not a Mainer, he’s just a limey version of a carpetbagger leftist.

I think I am missing something here, if your not a legal citizen there certain things federally your not allowed to do!! Like work or vote, had you already been hired/working when you wrote your report in November ??
In November, Myall published a report for MECEP in which he argued in favor of increased immigration to Maine and the expansion of taxpayer-funded social services and housing for non-citizens to combat the stateโ€™s โ€œplateauing workforce.โ€ Were you paid for this report???
James Myall Then became a citizen in January 2024 the last I knew November is the 11th month and January is the 1st month of the year. Sounds like you were already working Before you became a US citizen in January!
โ€œI value being an American above being a Mainer,โ€ Myall โ€” who became a naturalized U.S. citizen in January 2024.
Seems a little fishy that you were writing reports for the very organization or organizations that you are now working for either before becoming a legal citizen and or found a decent paying job shortly after becoming a U.S. citizen! How did that happen??
This is Why Mainers canโ€™t find a job they are being put to the back of the bus!!
