Pingree and Golden Vote for Billions to Ukraine and Nothing for the U.S. Border

Reps. Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden (D-Maine) voted with the majority of the house over the weekend to send billions of taxpayer dollars to defend the borders of Ukraine, as the U.S. border remains open.

“The defense of Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan is the defense of America. Today I joined a bipartisan coalition of my colleagues in support of $95 billion package to aid our democratic allies overseas,” said Rep. Golden on X.

Rep. Pingree also weighed in on her support for Ukraine, but noted in her statement that, though she will happily send taxpayer funding to Ukraine and Taiwan, she opposes funding for Israel’s military.

“Unfortunately, the right has politicized the war and delayed urgently needed aid for Ukraine. With passage of this overdue defense aid, I hope America can reaffirm our support for Ukraine and commitment to defending democracy abroad. The world is watching,” said Pingree.

Following the bill’s passage in a 310-110 vote, with support from all Democrats and 100 Republicans, numerous Democrats, including Pingree, began waiving Ukrainian flags and chanting “Ukraine! Ukraine!”

Republicans will have an opportunity to stop the foreign aid package in the Senate, if enough of them unite against it.

Supporters of the $95 billion foreign aid package, which includes $61 billion to prop up both the Ukrainian military and economy, have received heavy criticism from many conservatives who have argued that they are showing more patriotism for Ukraine than their own country.

“Ukrainian flags fly in the chamber of the UNITED STATES House of Representatives as they vote to send more of your hard-earned money to a corrupt foreign regime. And just like that they shout “UKRAINE! UKRAINE!” while happily working to secure Ukraine’s borders, not ours,” said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

As the U.S. has continually failed to secure the border, Golden suggested that defending Ukraine is the same as defending the U.S.

One Democrat, Rep. Gerald Connolly (D-Va.), even said that the Ukrainian border is the U.S. border.

“Some say, well, we have to deal with our border first. The Ukrainian, Russian border is our border! It’s the border between depraved autocracy and freedom loving people seeking our democratic way of life,” said Rep. Connolly.

Criticism of the foreign aid package has been amplified by the fact that, although congress has sent billions to foreign countries, it has continually failed to do anything to secure the U.S. Southern border, which the Biden Administration has fought to keep open for criminals to enter with impunity.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) has been denounced by many as a traitor to his party for breaking a previous promise to oppose foreign aid until the Southern border has been secured.

“Reality doesn’t matter to Mike Johnson. All he cares about is continuing the business model built on blood, murder, and war in foreign countries. Passing $61 BILLION in aid to Ukraine was a total betrayal of Republican voters. We need a new Speaker!!” said Rep. Marjorie Greene on X.

Mike Johnson still hasn’t shown Congress or the American people the proof that Russia intends to invade the rest of Europe after finishing its campaign in Ukraine.

Saturday’s foreign aid package vote has added to cries, championed by Rep. Greene, for the removal of Rep. Johnson from his position as speaker.

What war mongering fools these two are. They have blood on their hands. Printing money and then throwing it away. Ukraine has no realistic way of prevailing and this bloodletting would have been over long ago without the US stringing it out. The idea that Russia will try to take over the rest of Europe is laughable. They have stated they have no intention of doing so and couldn’t if they wanted to. Of course the MIC loves it. Really good for profits and the fools in congress go right along with it. Gotta keep that campaign money rolling in.

PFFFFT. “The defense of Ukraine, Israel, & Taiwan” defends ONLY the profits of our privately-owned, for-profit military-industrial complex. Your wildly-regressive tax dollars at work. We could prove this by nationalizing the entire MIC, making THE RICH pay ALL the taxes at all levels of gov’t, and THEN see how much our so-called “representatives” like war-mongering. I bet they won’t, AT ALL.
