More than half of registered voters in the U.S. say they are living paycheck to paycheck under the Biden administration, and that the state of the economy is the number one topic they want to see in a presidential debate, according to a NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ poll published on Wednesday.

The poll, which surveyed 1,000 registered voters, was conducted between May 28 and 29 via an online panel.

According to the survey, about 58 percent of respondents said that they are currently living paycheck to paycheck and disapprove of President Biden’s handling of the economy, and about two-thirds reported that they have had to cut back on expenses in the past month.

The top categories of purchases that the respondents said they had to cut back on were restaurants, entertainment, groceries and travel.

Ninety-two percent of the registered voters polled said they are very or somewhat concerned about inflation, which a majority of the respondents said was the biggest problem facing the U.S. today, followed by immigration and crime.

The economy is the issue that 43 percent of the respondents said they would most like to see discussed in a presidential debate.

About 44 percent of those surveyed said they were worse off financially than they were a year ago, and 68 percent said that the country is on the wrong track overall.
