Update on Nuking of Maine Wire Facebook Account

Hey Maine Wire Readers,

Messages began pouring in last night about some unusual activity around our Facebook page. We can confirm that Facebook was begun censoring Maine Wire stories going back to even December. This includes removing links that elected officials posted to their own pages, blocking traffic to the Maine Wire, and limiting our visibility. Facebook (aka Meta) has always embraced censorship, and even began targeting some of our content on the solar subsidies last week, but their efforts really went into overdrive last night. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that it’s happening right after that splendid debate.

We always knew that Facebook was not a platform to trust. While we used it to reach Maine and New England audiences, we understood that if our following grew (which it has, from under 5k followers to more than 17k), that there would be a response. We don’t know if this was a targeted spam/reporting campaign by left-wing activists. Or perhaps something like when Sen. Angus King’s campaign emailed his friends at Facebook to have users banned indefinitely. Facebook could just be doing this all on their own as well. Right now, because of whatever the social media company is doing, we can’t even access the backend of our page to learn more about the situation.

What now?

Follow us on Twitter/X: @TheMaineWire. If you don’t have an account, make one. It’s the censorship resistant platform. It’s better than Facebook, growing faster, has better information, and you don’t have to let Mark Zuckerberg’s digital brain worms in your head. Here’s the link: https://x.com/themainewire

Sign up for our email list: The Maine Wire Newsletter goes out every morning at 7am delivering all of our latest reporting to your inbox. This to — for now — is a censorship resistant means of staying connected with the Maine Wire. We don’t reuse, share, or sell your emails, we just send you Maine Wire stories. (You’ll want to sign up, because we’ve got a delicious story coming on Monday…) You can find the sign up form here: https://www.themainewire.com/about/

We’ll continue to assess what exactly is going on with Zuckerberg’s platform and whether we will continue to post content on it. As always, we’re actively building Maine Wire with an understanding that good journalism is telling citizens things their government doesn’t want them to know. This won’t stop or even slow us down. Facebook accounts for a fraction of our reach and total traffic. You can help us stay connected by signing up for our email and following us on X, but you can always find us by just going to TheMaineWire.com.

Onward!

This is why i financially support a journalistic team such as this. With “free” media you get exactly what the sponsors and owners want you to get. Not what i need to know.

Fakebook, really? Thought the only people who still frequent that were the flip phone generation. Think for yourself people. Use the media against themselves.

Fascinating times we’re experiencing! Back in the early to mid 1960’s I had a couple of grammar school teachers that loved freedom and occasionally spoke about what Communism was like for the citizens.Increasingly the US is becoming what the Soviet Union was; propagandist news, hatred of organized religion, despair, and political persecution.

Yeah, they removed a post I shared on my page back on 7 June. Something about gathering information on others.

The Maine Wire really needs to hire better editors to proofread and correct your articles before publication. Every single article I read there are at least 2 or 3 grammatical and typographical errors.

@cheshire cat it’s not about me. it’s about their laziness and lack of effort to proofread their articles. If using proper spelling and grammar in public newspaper articles are not important to you either, then you’re part of the problem.

My advice? Use Facebook as what many considered its original intent – social media, not news. I don’t go to Facebook to learn but to reconnect. An example is the “You know you are from Belfast if…..?” site. No sales pitches or politics allowed.

Have a great Fourth of July, everyone!

I posted a couple of Maine Wire stories on my husband’s fb and got the same messages.
Thanks Justice Barrett for helping this censorship to continue.

I read the Maine Wire every chance I get . it’s the ONLY source for news ( real news ) that we have here .
Ive never been on Facebook ,my space ,your space, instagram , linked in , or any other of the so called social media sites . I have no interest . There is enough trash in the world without going out and subscribing to it . Thank you Maine Wire !

Count me as not surprised that Facebook would begin this again. Like the run up to 2020 essentially , where anything negative about Biden et al was censored.
I have noticed for a few days that Gmail is preventing emails from being sent that contain links to articles or data critical of the current regime of incompetence .
Gmail’s main page will continually disconnect when trying to send such an email.
But that is probably just a coincidence , right ?

It’s been abundantly clear for a few years that the usual outlets on Social Media are biased. It’s past time to get on alternative forums. We need to develop and support more independent “parallel universe” sites. The Maine Wire is the only reliable news site in Maine. The others serve us biased fluff. Then there’s Substack and Brighteon as well as previously mentioned X. Don’t use Facebook! What a joke. I subscribed a few years ago just to read what my grown kids were up to…but then got a couple of “wanting to befriend” notices from middle eastern men who included pictures of themselves! Ye Gods…It took a lot of hassle to get my account closed and completely off FB radar. GO MAINE WIRE. May your readership continue to grow!

That little puke Zuckerberg should go for a long walk off a short dock. He funds the mail in ballots and the drop boxes they are collected in. He is an enemy of the state.
